I took in a small dog in January because she was dropped off at a restaurant. Before people start getting mad at me for not having her spayed already, I would like for yall to know that I took her to the vet and she has had all her shots, but unfortunately she is heartworm positive. She will begin her heartworm treatment in two weeks. It is not recommended that she is spayed while she has heartworms because it will cause too much stress on her. She is also an inside dog and she is the only dog I have. Well, I noticed she was in heat today and I was really just wondering what do people do when their dog is in heat? I do not want her discharge to get on the furniture or floor so I went ahead and laid down old sheets and towels where she lays and sits at. Is there anything else I could do to help prevent a mess? I have heard of people making diapers for their dogs…is this useful, or is it better to do what I am already doing? Will there be a lot of discharge and how long do dogs usually have a discharge? Thanks in advance!

They do actually have a diaper thing you can get for your dog but when we are in this situation we just have her lay on a rug.
